Custom Rossi R1 for Riders for Health

Vales Five Continent helmet incorporated into design
By Motorcycle.Com Staff, Oct. 20, 2009
Motorcycle Hall of Famer Don Emde has commissioned a special custom Yamaha R1 to be auctioned to benefit Riders for Health.

Emde, the 1972 Daytona 200 winner and publisher of Parts Magazine, has been an active supporter of Riders for Health. The charity provides health workers in with transportation to deliver medical care to isolated rural communities.

Donated by Yamaha Motor Corp. U.S.A., the R1 will have Ohlins suspension, Akrapovic exhaust, wheels from Roland Sands Designs and a special paint job incorporating MotoGP Champion Valentino Rossis famous AGV Five Continents helmet design.

Rossi has approved the project and his helmet designer Aldo Drudi is adapting the Five Continents motif for the custom R1s bodywork. A sketch of the finished design is featured in the November issue of Parts Magazine.

Valentino Rossi's "Five Continents" helmet is featured prominently in the custom R1's design.

The finished R1 will be auctioned as a track day bike equipped with Bridgestone BT003 tires, with license plate, turn signals and tail light removed.

Following on the heels of successful events this year in Hollywood and the USGP races at Laguna Seca and Indianapolis, the Riders for Health/Rossi R1 project will take things to a new level, says Emde. I am very grateful for the support by Yamaha, Valentino Rossi, AGV, Aldo Drudi, Ohlins, Roland Sands Design, Akrapovic and all of the other sponsors and people involved with the project.
