Chaz Davies to race for Aprilia

2008 Daytona 200 winner to ride RSV1000R
By Motorcycle.Com Staff, Feb. 03, 2009
Chaz Davies has signed on to race for Aprilias AMA Daytona Sportbike team.

The 2008 Daytona 200 winner with Kawasaki, Davies will get the chance to repeat with the Factory Aprilia Millenium Technologies Team. The 21-year-old Welshman will ride the RSV1000R alongside Ben Thompson.

Chaz is going to be a great addition to the team, says team owner Kevin Hunt. He has raced at a world level and he has won races here in the U.S. He knows how to get the job done. I think that Chaz and Ben Thompson will work well together and their riding styles will compliment each other. The best equipment in the world is useless without a great rider and we feel like we have two of the best riders in the paddock with Chaz and Ben.

Chaz Davies will try to repeat his 2008 Daytona 200 victory for Aprilia.

Davies has had a history with Aprilia. As a 12-year-old, Davies was given special dispensation to compete in the Aprilia Challenge 125cc Championship in 1999. His performance earned Davies a spot on the Team Matteoni Racing Aprilia bike in 2002 in the 125cc Grand Prix World Championship where he became the youngest rider to complete a full GP season.

Davies continued to race Aprilia bikes in the 125cc and 250cc Grand Prix championships before moving to AMA racing to compete in the Supersport and Formula X-Treme classes in 2007.

I am very excited about this new project. I have rode Aprilias in the World Championship and I know what Aprilia can do when they decide to go racing, says Davies. I had a chance to test the RSV1000R with the KWS Motorsports team last week and I was very impressed. The Aprilia is awesome and the team is spot on.
