Capirossi in, Spies out for Assen

AMA champion will be at Dutch TT
By Motorcycle.Com Staff, Jun. 24, 2008
Ben Spies will play the role of spectator at the MotoGP stop at Assen in The Netherlands as Rizla Suzuki rider Loris Capirossi has been cleared to compete at the Dutch TT.

Capirossi broke his hand at Catalunya, forcing the Italian rider to miss the British Grand Prix June 22. Reigning AMA Superbike champion Ben Spies filled in for Capirossi at the Donington Park race, finishing 14th in his MotoGP debut. Capirossi watched from the sidelines as Spies and teammate Chris Vermeulen raced their Suzuki GSV-R bikes at Donington.

Im 100% certain that I am able to ride and I just cant wait to get back on my bike again. It was really difficult watching at the last race,

Loris Capirossi learned at Donington that watching a race isn't as much fun as competing in it.
but I want to say well done to Ben as he did a good job in his first GP. It certainly felt very strange seeing him working with my crew and sitting in my chair in the garage! says Capirossi. I missed the test in Catalunya because of the injury, but I know Chris made some improvements to the bike so I will be looking at those and seeing if they will help me. I need to carry on from where I left off and continue to make the bike better and I know that top result is just around the corner.

Spies will attend the Assen race as he continues to soak in the MotoGP experience in preparation for his wildcard appearances in the two American stops on the tour, July 20 at Laguna Seca in Monterey, Calif. and Sept. 14 in Indianapolis, Ind. at the famous Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
