Can-Am Accelerates Spyder

BRP says consumers in 35 states in the US, five Canadian provinces and 20 international markets now have the opportunity to order a Spyder.

The impact of creating a new category of on-road vehicles is becoming clearer than ever to us, says Chris Dawson, vice-president of strategic planning and head of the Spyder program. Consumer response has far exceeded our expectations and we are therefore proceeding with our market expansion ahead of our initial schedule.

During a meeting in Tampa, BRP provided 250 dealers with a chance to experience the open-air benefits of riding a Spyder roadster and to try out the new Sequential Electronic 5-speed transmission (SE5), which, like the Sequential Manual 5-speed (SM5), includes a transmission-based reverse. In 2008, both the SM5 and SE5 transmission options are available on the Spyder.

The SE5 allows even more enthusiasts to experience the thrill of the open road, says Dawson. It provides a perfect opportunity for riders looking for the latest in clutchless shifting technology and a thrilling, sporty, get-on-and-go ride.

The Can-Am Spyder is available for trial at international dealerships in Western Europe, South America, Australia/New Zealand and Russia. Worldwide deployment of the Spyder is scheduled to be completed within the next two to three years.

As planned, the premiere edition international Spyder owners will be receiving their units in the coming months, says Michel Hade, vice-president and general manager, BRPs international division. Since its official launch in February 2007, more than 30,000 consumers worldwide have tried the roadster. Their response through the targeted marketing tours has been very positive and we intend to continue this initiative in 2008.

The Can-Am Spyder roadster is a three-wheel vehicle (two in the front, one at the rear), powered by a Rotax 990 V-Twin engine that produces 106 hp.
