BMW sales up in July

Year-to-date figures still down from 2007
By Motorcycle.Com Staff, Aug. 08, 2008
The BMW Group has reported a 19.7% growth in motorcycle sales in July, though 2008 sales still fall short of last years figures.

According to its monthly report, BMW sold 10,679 motorcycles worldwide this July compared to 8,921 bikes during July 2007. In contrast, BMWs automobile sales grew by only 2.2% in July.

Despite the 19.7% growth in July, total sales for the first seven months of 2007 are still down from the same period in 2007. BMW says that 66,612 units were sold from January to July 2008, down 2.3% from the 68,151 units sold in the first seven months of 2007.

Delays have moved BMW's F800GS into its 2009 product line.

BMW cites poor economic conditions in the U.S. market and the delayed introduction of the two-cylinder F800GS and F650GS to America for the decrease in sales. The F650GS became available in the U.S. in July while BMW says the F800GS will arrive in the fall.
