BMW returning to Isle of Man TT

Bavarian manufacturer returns after 30 year absence
By Motorcycle.Com Staff, Mar. 09, 2010
BMW is returning to the Isle of Man TT with its S1000RR superbike.

The German manufacturer last entered an official team in the TT in the late 1970s. BMW first competed in the 1937 Isle of Man TT and has claimed 30 wins, mostly in the sidecar class.

BMW test rider Rico Penzkofer will ride the S1000RR in both the Superbike and Senior TT classes. Penzkofer competed in his first Isle of Man TT last year. At 34 years old, Penzkofer would have been just a toddler when BMW last entered an official TT team with Helmut Dahne and Hans-Otto Butenuth.

To be representing BMW on their return to the TT is a tremendous honour for me and after my debut last year I cant wait to return to the Mountain Course, says Penzkofer. Riding the Superbike will obviously present a new challenge, but the bike is superb and that, combined with my own improved knowledge of the course, should see us able to make a good impression.
