By Motorcycle.Com Staff, May. 05, 2010
BMW shipped 20,840 motorcycles over the first quarter of 2010, up 20.9% from 2009.

The German manufacturer reported a profit of 32 million euros (US$41.1 million) over the quarter, up 14.3% from the first quarter of 2010. The BMW S1000RR is credited as a reason for the increase.

The sales increase helped give BMW the highest market share in the 500cc and over segment in Italy, Great Britain and Germany. BMW sold 2,094 motorcycles in the U.S. during the quarter, a 7.8% increase from the first quarter of 2009. The only market where BMW failed to top their previous first-quarter results was Japan where sales dropped 13.5% to 508 units.

BMW produced 30,222 motorcycles during the first quarter, a 3.8% increase from 2009.
