BMW offers low suspension

Trio of bikes to feature lower set-up for smaller riders
By Motorcycle.Com Staff, Mar. 05, 2008
Motorcyclists with a shorter inseam may soon find a more comfortable ride on a trio of BMW bikes.

BMW is offering the option of lowering the suspension on new 2008 R 1200 GS, R 1200 R and R 1200 RT models.

The low suspension option will lower the seat height of the R 1200 GS to 31.1 inches, and the R 1200 R to 29.5 inches, a drop of two inches from standard. The R 1200 RT may be lowered by three inches, also dropping to 29.5 inches.

The three models run on BMWs boxer engine design which already provides a lower center of gravity than other engine configurations.

The lower suspension, which includes a low seat option, will be available as a factory-ordered option at a manufacturers suggested retail price of US$175. This offer is available only for new motorcycles ordered at a BMW Motorrad retailer and is not available as an accessory to be added later.
