American JD Beach is certainly consistent. Beach picked up his third second-place finish in three races in the 2008 Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup on April 12.

The 16-year-old Beach was edged out by just 0.031 seconds in a thrilling finish on the Estoril circuit in Portugal. Thirteen-year-old Daijiro Hiura took the checkered flag, while Sturla Fagerhaug was only 0.052 second behind in third.

Beach and Fagerhaug were battling for the lead late in the race, but the pair could not shake off Hiura.

The bike was great and I was able to win but I know I made some mistakes, says Huira. I took the lead a few times but I was not perfect and I was passed again. Even half way round the last lap I made a mistake but I pushed and pushed and went up the inside on the brakes. I just made it.

With his second place finish, Beach remains in second in the standings behind Cup leader Luis Salom. Salom, who won both of the opening races in Spain, started in the back at 19 on the grid. He fought his way through the field and finished an impressive fourth.
