Barry Sheene's son to ride tribute bike
Freddie Sheene, will ride the Icon Sheene motorcycle in a hill climb at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, July 2-4 in West Sussex, England.
The Icon Sheene is powered by an engine from a GSX1400, in memory of Sheenes 1976 and 1977 500cc Grand Prix World Championships with Suzuki. Builder Andrew Morris of Icon Motorcycles added a Garrett turbocharger, Carrello con-rods, Wisecon pistons and a handcrafted aluminum oil cooling system. According to Icon Motorcycles, the Icon Sheene achieved 250 bhp at the rear wheel and 133 ft-lb. of torque with 0.4 bar of turbo.
Only 52 Icon Sheene motorcycles will be produced, matching Sheenes age when he died of cancer in 2003. Each motorcycle is identified with a different playing card hand painted below the seat by Mike Fairholme who painted Sheenes helmets. Sheenes traditional #7 appears on the seat while a solid silver Sheene Duck logo and an engraved Barry Sheene signature appear on the yoke.
