The “40 Years of Berlin” R1200R roadster was built to celebrate 40 years of production at BMW’s Berlin-Spandau plant. The anniversary bike received several upgrades including a chorme exhaust system, ABS, white turn signals, heated grips, on-board computer, lowered seat, sport windwhield and a Mojave Brown paint job.

The one-off motorcycle was sold to Stefan Thiel of Oldenburger Munsterland, Germany, who put in the winning bid of 14,951 euros (US$20,805). Thiel accept the motorcycle on Jan. 29.

“I’m thrilled about my new motorcycle. And I’m proud to help children here in Berlin with the proceeds,” says Thiel.

All of the proceeds went to support Save the Children, an international children’s rights organization. The money will fund the organization’s “Mitwirkung in Sicht” (“Participation in Sight”) project which will bring young academics into schools to work with students, teachers and parents on finding ways to resolve conflicts without violence.
