AMA-SX rivals in sponsorship shuffle

Dungey parts ways with ONE Industries
By Motorcycle.Com Staff, Jan. 08, 2009
Supercross racer Ryan Dungey has parted ways with race wear sponsor ONE Industries and reached a new agreement with Fox Racing.

Dungey and ONE Industries terminated their three-year contract following the AMA Supercross season opener Jan. 4 in Anaheim, Calif. Dungey and ONE Industries began their sponsorship agreement in November 2008.

The switch in sponsorships comes following ONE Industries signing of Dungeys rival and reigning AMA Supercross Lites West champion Jason Lawrence. A controversial figure, Lawrence, back from a suspension following his arrest for disorderly conduct last July, competed in Anaheim wearing ONE gear.

Ryan Dungey reached the podium in Anaheim in his first and only AMA Supercross race in ONE gear.
We signed a three-year contract with Ryan and we were looking beyond that with the brand, so nobody enjoyed making this decision, says Neil Calvesbert, chief executive officer of ONE Industries. Everyone involved with ONE Industries gives 100% to the company, the teams and riders we work with and I would like to thank them for their devotion, professionalism and nobility throughout the events that took place at Anaheim.

Fox Racing released a brief announcement welcoming Dungey to their brand saying further details will be provided later. Fox Racing was previously a sponsor for Lawrence.

Dungey finished third in the Supercross Lites race in Anaheim for Rockstar/Maktia Suzuki, after starting the race in tenth. Yamaha of Troys Lawrence finished fifth after being involved in an accident with several other riders.
