AMA-SX: Reed out six weeks

Title hopes fizzle after breaking hand

By Motorcycle.Com Staff, Jan. 20, 2010
Chad Reed will be out six weeks after undergoing surgery for a broken left hand.

The Monster Energy Kawasaki rider injured his hand in a collision with rival James Stewart at the Jan. 16 AMA Supercross race in Phoenix, Ariz. Reed was considered a top contender to upseat Stewart for the 2010 SX championship but the injury combined with a total of just two points after the first two rounds have ruined any chances at a title.

This will be the first time Chad has ever missed a supercross, says Mike Fisher, Monster Energy Kawasaki team manager. I know Chad wants to be racing. His surgery went really well and will start his rehabilitation as soon as he can. We want him to be 100 percent when he returns so he can put his Monster Energy Kawasaki on the podium.

If Reeds recovery follows the six-week estimate, he will be back in early March in time for the Daytona round.
