Dungey increases overall lead
By Motorcycle.Com Staff, Mar. 22, 2010
Ryan Dungey won the inaugural AMA Supercross event at the new home of the Dallas Cowboys, increasing his lead in the championship standings.

The Rockstar Makita Suzuki racer led every lap and, after Ryan Villopotos fourth-place finish, Dungey leaves Cowboy Stadium in Arlington, Texas, with a 24-point lead over his Monster Energy Kawasaki rival.

This was a big win for me tonight, but there are still a lot of races left to go, says Dungey. The track got really rough tonight, so that kept me on my toes. I am looking forward to going to Jacksonville next weekend.

Ryan Dungey now has eight podium finishes in 11 races. Dungey's consistency has kept him at the top of the championship standings.

Kawasakis Nick Wey took the holeshot in the main event but couldnt hold on to the lead for long, quickly losing it to Dungey. Before the first lap was over, San Manuel Yamaha s Josh Hill had moved up to second with Honda Red Bull Racings Davi Millsaps in third.

A lingering rib injury kept Hill from maintaining that pace, losing second place to Millsaps on lap four. On lap nine, Millsaps teammate Trey Canard made a pass to move up to third. The three frontrunners held their positions the second half of the race to give Dungey the win ahead of the Honda pair. With his third-place finish, Canard has four podium appearances in five races since joining the Honda factory team as an injury replacement for Andrew Short.

The 2010 AMA Supercross season continues March 27 in Jacksonville, Fla. with Dungey still holding a 239-215 lead over Villopoto. Despite winning four of the last six races, Villopoto has actually lost ground since that streak began, thanks to Dungeys consistency.
