AMA Sportbike racers hit the newly-paved Daytona International Speedway track to prepare for the 2011 Daytona 200.

Rainy weather cut the test short but most riders were able to put in at least a dozen laps for the Dunlop Tire Test.

Leading the way was P.J. Jacobsen with a time of 1:51.822 on the Ducati 848 EVO. Jacobsen races for Celtic Racing with tuning support from Fast by Ferracci.

“We were pretty happy with how everything went today,” says Jacobsen. “I think the track feels smooth as glass, and of course we’re really happy being on top. [Eraldo] Ferracci is great; he’s been around for a really long time and really, really knows his stuff, so I’m happy to be riding for him and Barry [Gilsenan]. I also really like the Ducati 848 EVO. It has a lot of torque and it's a good machine, nice and fast, smooth.  I’m real happy with the bike.”

Jake Zemke was second riding the Project 1 Atlanta Yamaha YZF-R6 with a time of 1:51.987. Third fastest was Jason DiSalvo (1:52.196) who is making his return to AMA competition riding the Latus Racing Ducati. DiSalvo was setting particularly quick lap times early in the test while other riders were still getting used to the track.

Danny Eslick, the 2009 Daytona Sportbike champion and pole-sitter at last year’s Daytona 200 set the fourth fastest time at 1:52.423 on the RMR Suzuki GSX-R600.
