AMA Pro Racing announces $3.3M purse

Total payouts more than double 2008 purse
By Motorcycle.Com Staff, Dec. 12, 2008
AMA Pro Racing has announced $3.3 million in purse money and bonuses for its 2009 road racing series, more than double the total purse given out from the 2008 season.

The two premier classes, AMA Pro American Superbike and AMA Pro Daytona Sportbike, will each feature a $1.5 million purse, including bonus awards. Thats nearly as much as the $1.6 million purse for all 2008 road racing championships combined.

As most race weekends will feature two American Superbike and two Daytona Sportbike races, payouts will be based on the total points earned in both races for each class. The top points earner in the two premier classes will receive $15,000. Second through 20th place finishers will earn $5,000 while 21st through 25th will receive $3,000. A total $125,000 purse will be paid out for each premier division every race weekend.

The top 25 finishers at each American Superbike and Daytona Sportbike event can also earn bonuses from the AMA Pro Road Racing PaceSetter Program. PaceSetter bonuses are awarded for participation in series-related activities and functions at each event, such as promotional events, autograph sessions and participation in AMA Pro team and rider meetings.

We are pleased to not only offer what we believe are lucrative race purses for our AMA Pro Road Racing championships, but also the opportunity for AMA Pro American Superbike and AMA Pro Daytona SportBike teams to earn even more bonus money through the AMA Pro Road Racing PaceSetter Program, says Roger Edmondson, president of AMA Pro Racing. Our 2009 purse is richer from top to bottom and the PaceSetter program allows our premier class teams to earn cash bonuses while also demonstrating to the competition that they are AMA Pro Road Racing's leaders both on and off the race track

The Supersport racers will split a $12,000 purse each race weekend with the winner earning $2,500. Racers in the SunTrust MOTO-GT division will share a $24,000 purse with the winner receiving $5,000.

AMA Pro Racing also announced its 2009 entry and licensing fees. Entry to American Superbike, Daytona Sportbike and SunTrust MOTO-GT races is $250, while the entry fee for the Supersport class is $150. An additional $100 fee is charged for late entries. American Superbike, National Pro Expert and Daytona Sportbike entrant and rider licenses cost $450 each. An annual crew credential costs $750. These credentials include an annual AMA Pro membership which may be earned separately for $100. AMA Pro membership is required for purchasing event credentials which cost $75 in advance and $100 at the event.
