AMA doubles purse for Laguna Seca

Half the racing but twice the payout
By Motorcycle.Com Staff, Jun. 11, 2010
AMA Pro Racing has doubled the purse for the July 23-25 Laguna Seca round. Sort of.

At the U.S. Grand Prix, the top 20 finishers in the American Superbike and Daytona Sportbike classes, as well as the top 10 in the Supersport class at Laguna Seca will receive twice the amount they would regularly earn.

Because AMA Pro Racing is sharing the stage with the MotoGP World Championship, however, the Laguna Seca round will only have one race for each of the three classes instead of the usual double header. Despite the increased payouts, the total purse will actually be the same as any other race weekend. Still, it means racers wont miss out on any purse money because there is less racing.

We are delighted to give our competitors additional incentive for the exciting US GP weekend, says David Atlas, chief operating officer of AMA Pro Racing. With just one opportunity for the fans at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca to see our SuperBike, Daytona SportBike and SuperSport races, we wanted to over deliver for everyone competing in our series.
