2012 MV Agusta F4 RR Revealed
Re-designed engine claims 198hp
As revealed in a teaser video released last week, the RR version of the MV Agusta F4 uses a new “Corsocorta” engine. According to MV Agusta, the Corsocorta engine shares little in common with the F4’s engine. The piston diameter has been increased to a 79mm bore (compared to 76mm on the F4’s engine) while the stroke was reduced to 50.9mm from 55mm.
With a new 4-2-1-4 exhaust system with new intake and exhaust tracts and titanium valves, MV Agusta claims an output of 198 hp at 13,400rpm, an improvement on the F4’s claimed 183hp. Maximum torque is the same as the F4 at 84.1 ft-lb. at 9200rpm.
Like the F4, the RR uses a rapidly removable cassette gearbox and slipper clutch. The ECU has been updated however, as well as the traction control system.
The MV Agusta F4 RR uses the same frame and swingarm as the regular F4, but MV Agusta has added steering head angle adjustability. The swingarm pivot can also be adjusted using calibrated inserts. MV Agusta also added a new Ohlins suspension system with a fully adjustable 43mm upside-down fork and TTX36 rear shock.
The F4’s radial-mounted Brembo monobloc calipers are also on the F4 RR, but they’re also now joined by Brembo radial master cylinders. New forged aluminum wheels offer a weight saving of about 2 pounds compared to the F4’s cast aluminum wheels.
The 2012 MV Agusta F4 RR will be available in pastel red and white or matte white. U.S. pricing and availability hasn’t been announced but the F4 RR will be available in Italy for 22,900 euro (US$32,975). MV Agusta is also offering a range of parts and accessories.
