Ducati Multistrada 1200 finishes first in class

Greg Tracy and the Ducati Multistrada 1200 took first place in its class at the 2010 Pikes Peak International Hill Climb.

Tracy completed the hill climb in 11:46.55, the only bike in the 1205cc class to finish under 12 minutes. Tracys time was also second best among all motorcycles in any class. Second place in the class went to Walker Pew who rode a 2008 Buell XBSTT. Alexander Smith, son of AMA Hall of Famer Malcolm Smith, also also rode the Ducati Multistrada 1200, finishing third with a time of 12:53.381.

The Spider Grips Falkner-Livingston Multistrada was an amazing ride. Everyone did an awesome job and that motorcycle is crazy fast- it hit 137mph at one point! The bike worked great on the dirt and the asphalt, says Tracy. When I was growing up, and all these factory teams would win races, I was sure they had these $100,000 engines and that was why they went so fast. I was wrong. This is my first year on a factory motorcycle and Ill tell you that bike was box-stock. It had some carbon, and few tweaks and that was it.

Gary Trachy won the 750cc class on a 2008 KTM SMX750 with a time of 11:33.710, setting the fastest time for all motorcycles of any class. Trachy finished ahead of Stuart Sinclair and his 2008 Aprilia SSW-SVX and Jeff Grace and his 2005 KTM 610SMR, with all three finishing under the 12 minute mark. Also notable was AMA Hall of Famer Malcolm Smith who finished 10th in the class, riding a 2009 Husaberg 570 with a time of 13:58.733.

Joe Prussiano took the 450cc class on a 2003 Honda CRF450 with a time of 12:15.883 while Leeland Sinclair took the 450cc Supermoto class on a Honda CRF supermoto in his first Pikes Peak attempt. Davey Durelle won the 250cc class on a 2011 Kawasaki KX250.

Dave Hennessy and passenger Jeremiah Owsley took the sidecar class in a 2001 Suzuki EML while Chuck Lee won the Vintage class on a 1971 Triumph Champion. Another notable entry was Paul Thede of Race Tech Suspension who rode the Lightning DB2 electric motorcycle. Thede rode under an exhibition class but did not finish.
