2010 MotoGP Rookies tryouts selected

Americans Cameron Gish and Ryan Matter invited to selection event

Thirty-nine teens including two Americans were invited to take part in the selection event for the 2010 Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup.

Californians Cameron Gish,14, from Shingle Springs, and Ryan Matter, 14, from Rancho Cucamonga, were invited to the tryout event, Oct. 6 at the Adria International Raceway in northern Italy.

Gish raced in the 2008 AMA U.S. Rookies Cup, placing 15th in the final seasons standings. In 2009, Gish raced in USGPRU, placing fifth overall in the National Championship 125GP class heading into the championship final.

Sitting one spot higher in the 125GP class, Matter also raced in the USGPRU Moriwaki MD250H class, sitting third overall with one race win. Matter was also selected to the 2009 AMA U.S. Red Bull Rookies Cup before the series was cancelled before the season began.

Cameron Gish will get the chance to compete against 38 teenage racers for a spot in the 2010 Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup.

Matter and Gish will join other prospects representing 26 countries at the selection event. A panel of judges consisting of Harald Bartol, director of the Red Bull KTM racing team, Austrian racing legend Gustl Auinger, former Red Bull Yamaha team owner Peter Clifford and former 125cc and 250cc Grand Prix racer Raul Jara will select a handful of participants to join some incumbent racers on the provisional entry list for the 2010 MotoGP Rookies Cup.
