2010 AMA Superbike Purse Expanded

The new purse is worth $15,250 per American Superbike race, matching the purse structure for the Daytona Sportbike class. The new purse structure is a dramatic increase from $6,500 originally tabled for 2010 American Superbike races.

The total weekend AMA Pro Racing prize money available in all three classes is $67,500.00 and the added purse money in AMA Pro National Guard American SuperBike should help our loyal teams and riders, says David Atlas, AMA Pro Racing Chief Operating Officer.

In documents released in December 2009, the American Superbike purse was to reward only the top three points-earners in each event with $3,500 for first, $2,000 for second and $1,000 for finishing third. That marked a drastic drop from the $73,500 purse for a double-header event in the 2009 season, drawing criticism from race teams and fans.

The 2010 season-opening Daytona round, as usual, had an expanded purse totaling $51,000 per Superbike race with a win netting $10,000 and the top 15 finishers getting lesser awards.

AMA Pro Racing also increased the purse for the second round, March 26-28 at Auto Club Speedway, rewarding the top 15 of each race, with a win worth $2,500. The new purse expands payouts to the top 20 finishers and will apply to the remaining rounds of the 2010 season.

Under the new purse structure, each race will pay $2,500 for a win, $1,500 for second, $1,000 for third, $750 for fourth through 10th and $500 for 11th through 20th. The total American Superbike purse for a double-header weekend will be $30,500, still less than half of the $73,500 from 2009 but much larger than the $6,500 originally posted.
