2009 Zero X Electric Bike Released
2009 Zero X electric bike released
The 2009 Zero X electric dirt bike received several modifications that the Scotts Valley, Calif. company says makes it faster, stronger and more durable than the 2008 model. The drive train, frame, suspension, brakes, wheels and tires all received updates to improve durability and stability.
After years of designing electric motorcycles were still innovating to go faster and further. The 09 Zero X is another evolutionary leap forward. Weve made several key changes based on suggestions from both pro riders and our current customers, says Neal Saiki, inventor and founder of Zero Motorcycles. We are definitely the leader in electric motorcycle technology and we intend to remain out front.
Saikis last comment may be a reference to KTMs work in producing its electric bike prototype which was unveiled shortly before the release of the 2009 Zero X. The updated Zero X has a claimed weight of 151 pounds, eleven pounds heavier than the reported weight of the 2008 model, but still lighter than KTMs prototype which is said to weigh nearly 200 pounds.
Zero says the electric motor can produce 23 hp with 50 ft-lbs. of torque. Due to the electric motor, Zero says peak torque is reached instantly, and with the light weight, the Zero X can accelerate from 0-30 mph in under two seconds.
The 2009 Zero X is priced at $7,750, but will have a $300 introductory discount until the New Year. Based on the sales of the 2008 model, Zero says it intends to increase production for 2009.
