Video Recommendation: Alone To Deadhorse
A solo ride on the Haul Road
Riding a motorcycle all the way to the Arctic Ocean is a bucket list item for many motorcyclists. As one who has taken this trip, I can attest to its beauty and challenges, particularly the 800 mile round trip along the Dalton Highway to Prudhoe Bay, AK (né Deadhorse). Since the road is largely made of compressed gravel and dirt, an ADV bike is ideal for this undertaking. I chose a Harley-Davidson Electra Glide Ultra for this four day endeavor. (You can read about my experience here. Scroll about halfway down the page.)
Alone To Deadhorse, the video below, does the best job of capturing the nature of the ride along the Dalton Highway to Prudhoe Bay of any video I’ve seen. If you’ve ever fantasized about this ride, I suggest you set aside 26 minutes to view this video.
Like most of the best happenings in his life, Evans stumbled into his motojournalism career. While on his way to a planned life in academia, he applied for a job at a motorcycle magazine, thinking he’d get the opportunity to write some freelance articles. Instead, he was offered a full-time job in which he discovered he could actually get paid to ride other people’s motorcycles – and he’s never looked back. Over the 25 years he’s been in the motorcycle industry, Evans has written two books, 101 Sportbike Performance Projects and How to Modify Your Metric Cruiser, and has ridden just about every production motorcycle manufactured. Evans has a deep love of motorcycles and believes they are a force for good in the world.
