Zero X hits Long Beach
Electric dirt bike showcased before final Champ Car race
The battery-powered Zero X will be featured in the Green Power Prix-view on April 20 with other alternative-energy vehicles before the last-ever Champ Car race at the Long Beach, Calif. road course.
“We are so excited to be a part of the Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach and especially to be involved in the debut of the Green Power Prix-View,” says Neal Saiki, inventor and founder of Zero Motorcycles. “Our passion for the environment combined with our passion for performance makes the Green Power Prix-View a perfect fit for Zero Motorcycles.”
The Zero X runs on lithium ion cells. The electric motor generates 23 hp and with its light 140 pound weight, Zero Motorcycles claims it can go from 0-30 in two seconds.
The Green Power Prix-view will showcase the Zero X against other vehicles including hybrid cars, robots and the top two winners of the Urban Challenge autonomous vehicle design contest held by the US Department of Defense’s Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA). These vehicles are scheduled to hit the track at 11:45 PDT before the Champ Car race.
The 2008 Grand Prix of Long Beach will be the final Champ Car race, as the Champ Car World Series will be merging with the Indy Racing League.
