Summer is almost here and that means riders are eager to get back on the road. Before you raise your kick-stand this holiday weekend, Progressive Insurance wants to remind you how important it is to be safe this upcoming weekend. Based on Progressive Insurance data from 2011-2013, the average number of claims during Memorial Day weekend is 43% higher than the rest of the year. On top of that, the number of motorcycle thefts per day, on average, is 64% higher than the rest of the year, with Honda, Harley-Davidson, Kawasaki, and Suzuki being the makes most frequently stolen.

When taking a motorcycle ride, it’s important for all riders to be properly protected. To make sure you’re covered heading into the holiday weekend, here are a few tips Progressive wants you to keep in mind:

  • Tip 1: Make sure your coverage is in order. Progressive’s (and other companies’ –MO)  Comprehensive and Collision coverage, offers not only liability, but also physical damage and theft coverage. Just select your deductible (which you’ll pay out of pocket when making a claim –MO) and Progressive covers the rest of the repair. It covers stolen or damaged property regardless of whose fault it is.
  • Tip 2: Progressive (and other companies’ –MO) also offers Trip Interruption protection on some policies. If you’re on the road and your bike is stolen, Progressive will cover you for food, lodging and transportation if you happen to get stranded.

Ride safe and have a wonderful Memorial Day.
