H-D sold its first police motorcycle to the Detroit PD in 1908, so they are celebrating 100 years of servicing law enforcement agencies this year. In this 1936 Police VLH, the side-valve, V-Twin, Flathead motor was fitted even though the new 61 cubic-inch motor was available. To catch a speeding motorist, the officer would follow the car until they attained the same speed, and then a lever would lock their speedometer in place as a record of the offenders speed.
