Re: Where is MO's review?
Gotta be REAL careful not to p.o. the Honda folks (again).

I'll be the fist to admit...
The R6 is NOT on my list of wanted bikes for EXACTLY that reason.

Now, if they corrected their tachs so that they read closer to that 16,2k redline, I might reconsider because it IS a stunning looker.

Re: Yamaha R6 Falls Short of Claimed Redline.
That was me. And you're right, dry weights and crank HP numbers are misleading. I've been saying that for years. The method the Japanese use to "weigh" their bikes is still shrouded in mystery. (Actually, I've heard that they just add up what all the parts weigh totally bone dry, without even air in the tires.)

But the crank HP numbers are close to reality. The fact that they lose around 15% through the driveline is really immaterial, because in the context of the competition, everyone claims crank HP. It's really meaningless; all you really want is a basis for comparision. And at least in those cases, the manufacturer usually specifies somewhere where the power was measured or if it was assisted by ram-air, etc.)

As far as I know, Yamaha was saying 17,500 and that was that. No explanation of a soft limiter, overrev, etc. blah, blah, blah. Nothing in even fine print.

Anyway, to the original point, every manufacturer claims "lighter, faster, stronger" but I don't remember too many times where one has focused on one aspect as clearly and strongly as this.

Actually, it's surprising that they would have done this. Most marketing people I know would have been a little leery about putting anything as provacative as that without it being at least close to reality.

Although, it certainly does seem possible in this case.

And yes, someone's head should roll.

Re: Not so fast there Yamaha R6!
Ralphie would probably try to have motorcycles outlawed in the blink of an eye. He hasn't been relevant in 30 years.
