I did put an open megaphone on my Honda Cub when I was 16. I think I lasted about an hour before the cops intervened. LOL!

Maybe that traumatizing event had a direct effect on your psyche and is the reason you dislike exhaust systems. Alot of our childhood experiences can have a lasting impression even into our adult lives.
