I have a theory that the '02s twin-swingarm models were not quite as desireable as single-sided versions, so there are a few still sitting around. That's fine with me (and you, too).
Ergos: I'm one of those (rare?) people that doesn't have a problem with sportbike ergos. (Although, some can be too extreme.) I've been riding a ZRX (with a lower handlebar) for a while, and I've only ridden two bikes with sportbike ergos in about the last year (ironically, one was a Buell XB12R), so it took me a few hours to get reaclimated. You'll get used to it. The Daytona's ergos are pretty relaxed. You'll also come to appreciate the difference in control you now have as opposed to riding a cruiser. Just remember that the clip-ons won't give you quite as much leverage as a standard bar and you've got to remember to look around you more because you're pitched forward and lower. Good luck with the bike. I love mine so far. |

It doesn't look vey good at all IMHO. Triumph makes a fly screen that dresses the bug eyes down a little ... Sharkskins makes bodywork for it and I have them on the 02 Race bike. Skyking.com makes frame and tail section sliders for it as well as Jack Lilley and LSL (I think) I put Vortex Clipons on both Daytonas for forward weight distribution, the rear shock is a Penske and the fronts are redone by GMD computract in Atlanta, Ga. Great ride and you'll see it in AHRMA and WERA events this year!

I also have an 02 Daytona 955 from Calgary. Great bike with around 25000 km now. I replaced the stock clipons with Speed Triple risers and bars and added a Laminar Lip. I find it much better in traffic and have knocked off 1100 km days without trouble. I should note that I am 53 and only 5' 4. With the clipons I found it tough to shoulder check in traffic and heavy on the upper body at speeds under legal. Other than the speedo glitch and the fuel connector recall it has been absolutely trouble free and a blast to ride. The rev limiter kicks in a 190 km/hr...in third. I haven't got the balls or skill to tag it in anything higher. Well, maybe fourth but I was too busy to watch the clock.
It dyno'ed at 128.5 hp, probably an easy 60 or so more than I can really use but fun to have anyway. |
