1998 Suzuki Marauder Died while Riding

I have a 1998 Suzuki Marauder and just did an oil change on it. I bought it recently and so I also pulled out the air filters to check them out. They looked ok so I put them back in and completed the oil change.
Thing is, when I tried to start her up afterwards she began to start and quit out on me. I tried it again and spun the throttle back and you could hear it trying and then it clicked too. I tried charging the battery and it started right up. I took it on a test ride around the block just incase, and it died while I was riding.
I'm assuming its not the battery since it is receiving power. But, I checked all the lines and couldn't find any kinks in gaslines. I did the only thing I could think of and hooked it back up to the charger. But, that only seems to be a bandaid. Do I need a new battery or is it the alternator?
Any help would be appreciated.

Maybe.

It's probably the battery. How old is it ?

I assume that you don't have access to a voltmeter ??

Could be loose cables too. Check them real good.

If you do replace the battery, it needs to be charged fully BEFORE it is installed......and then you need to check the charging voltage. Could be that both are bad.

I'm going with battery. Change it before it harms the rest of the system. It's constant load on the bikes charging system is hard on all the components, wiring included, not to mention the starter.

She works!

Thanks for the advice! I just went and bought a new battery. Let it charge and placed it in and she is great again. I really appreciate it.
