Question C109RT Shift Points (MPH)

Just bought a brand new 2009 C109RT. My last bike was a Cavalcade, so I'm used to big bikes and how they feel, but this is my first bike without a tach.

So, am I supposed to follow the owner's manual, which I clearly know is wrong and shift to 2nd at 12 mph, 3rd at 19, 4th at 25 and 5th at 31? No...not a misprint, because it also says the same in kmh (at 20, 30, 40 and 50).

According to this, I should be in 3rd before I clear an intersection from a standing stop! Who in the world can "cruise" at 35 mph in 5th gear???

Tell me I'm not wrecking my engine by doing what I know is right!

PS. Maybe the chart is to obtain some EPA mileage illusion...
