Just signed up since I think I'll be buying a new (to me) ride tomorrow. I'm 62 and haven't ridden in 30+ years, so I'll have a rather steep learning curve ahead of me. I'm looking at a 2005 Suzuki C90T Boulevard. I live in S. Central Tennessee, just above the Alabama state line and a short 20 minute scoot over to Lynchburg, Tennessee (Home of Jack Daniels!).
The bike has about 26000 miles, engine guards (crash bars), Vance & Hines Longshot pipes and leather saddlebags. Has also been changed to ape-hanger bars (owner doesn't have the original bars). He's asking $5500 (which according to the NADA site is low retail). Is there anything special to check/look out for with this model or should a normal inspection cover all bases? Thanks, folks. |

Apehangers are a bad idea for any rider, a very bad idea for a re-entering rider. Get some stock or at least standard bars. If you want to go back to the apes later, fine.
26k miles for an '05 cruiser is a lot. Most bikes of that type average less than 2k miles a year. I'd go looking for one with lower miles and fewer "upgrades." It's a buyer's market; lightly used cruisers are a dime a dozen. Does he have maintenance records? Was it dealer serviced? If so, you can ask him or the dealer to pull the records. Oil change reciepts? Was the engine re-tuned to compensate for the V&H pipes? Does he have receipts for that?

Low retail is $4450. Mileage is high for a cruiser. It's spring and everyone thinks their old bike is wroth its weight in gold. Frankly $4K would be high in this market. And if the bike wasn't rejetted for the new exhaust I wouldn't touch it period.

It has been re-tuned for the new exhaust, and the current owner didn't install the apes - blame that fiasco on the originaal owner. I was wondering about the mileage but didn't have anything to base my gut feeling on - good to know my gut was right.
Guess that bike will stay for sale for a bit longer. |

yeah, tons of nice bike out there, what you're after is stock and babied with reasonable miles, "performance mods" are a BIIIIIG red flag.
I like apes myself, shoulder height is about right..
