Default 1996 Katana 600 Carb Question

I have a 96 600 Katana with a 2003 motor and trans but the carb is from the 96 motor, Im trying to put it into the ports but its so tight. I was wondering if I would need the ports from the old carb for it to fit or do i have to go get a carb for the 2003 motor. Thank you.

Well, you're having trouble fitting a part to a 7-year-newer motor. What do you suppose could be the problem?
