Why is the AMA asking for trouble? All we need is those politically motivated nanny-staters being invited into the tent.

Look at this way: a study will be done eventually; Congress set aside the funds, and with motorcycling growing as it is, the gummit is going to put their filthy stare on it somehow, sometime, some way.

I'd rather have the AMA proactively urging and perhaps influencing the study as our advocates, than to have it pushed and promoted by, for instance, the IIHS. At least the AMA is on our side.

Exactly, if the IIHS and NTSHA get ahold of it we'll be wearing seat belts and rubber suits. The AMA is on our side and the only effective voice we have at the table. What's sad is the 10 million motorcyclists and only 300,000 AMA members, come on people membership is cheap and they're the ones who deal with the political end on a national level.

Abate and local groups are good for local issues and may get things done on a stste to state basis but they're small potatos compared to heavy hitters like the Insurance lobby

You are going to be wearing them anyway. It isn't a matter of 'if' but 'when'.
