Awesome LR. It's amazing what one can accomplish with 4 minute gas stops!
I think your next article should be on time management and route planning.

Jeez you be a motojournalist! Now if I could just learn to use commas like you do..nice story, sorry you almost got the bird, but that beats a pit bull any day.
So one thing I fail to understand is the rear cylinder shut-off deal. I remember fouling the rear plug on my City X, and it ran like a 50cc Honda. So when the bike gets hot it shuts down the back jug, wouldn't that make the front cylinder work twice as hard and get even, er...ah.. hotter....oh nevermind...

Oh and my wife knows all to well about Birds. We were rolling up highway 1 coming into the south end of Big Sur, I see a bird out of the corner of my eye and duck (verb) just in time for it to hit her square in the face shield. My Laughter almost drowned out her screaming over the autocomm. She had a dirt daisy on her shield from the impact and a dead bird in her lap, luckily no blood. Full face helmets come in handy...

It only does it at idle. As soon as you throttle up it shuts back on.

I ride alone, the wasteland that I cross -
Will take another life, we'll take another loss. I feel a dry wind, dust is in my eyes - The Artic Cold at night; the Earth, it tells me Lies.... God in Heaven! My only friend - Will I live to see my journey's end? As the world awakens me so hard, my values have been changed; I make a promise to myself: Never Again! A dusty Godforsaken path, endless to my dismay! I know these are The Badlands; somehow I'll find my way.... No more Paradise, no more soothing rain. All the Sacrifice; the pain is all the same. Still I'm pushing onward - alone I can't deny My presence fills the desert, my spirit never dies.... Will these Lonely Nights, ever end? Will I live to see my Journey's end? As the world awakens me so hard, my values have been changed; I make a promise to myself: Never Again! A dusty Godforsaken path, endless to my dismay! I know these are The Badlands; somehow I'll find my way.... The vultures that circle, - cloud the empty sky, Patiently waiting: they wait for me to Die. Tortured and beaten, blistered by the Sun - Forceful and heartless, have The Badlands won? Still I'm pushing onward, alone I can't deny - My presence fills the desert; my spirit never Dies.... As the world awakens me so hard, my values have been changed; I make a promise to myself: Never Again! A dusty Godforsaken path, endless to my dismay! I know these are The Badlands; somehow I'll find my way.... Badlands from Metal Church: Blessing in Disguise (1989) Good writeup Longride, enjoyed it very much. The Wife and I may have to do Sturgis one of these years. Or not.

Cool story LR, I'll have to drag my butt out there one of these days myself. The FLHT is the bees knees alright and mines a crummy old-tech '08 !
