Well, it looks like it's really going to happen.

When can I order my Brutale 1078 RR Crossbones?

Does Harley really need this big of a tax write-off?

It's about the marquee. In the HD world of money the MV aquisition is small money. It allows HD to re-enter the race world with little effort and re-build a unique low-volume brand to elite status. When the rumor started weeks ago I said this was good. I believe that HD will keep production at the 10k unit mark for several years. I'll bet you'll see them on showroom floors by Spring. HD techs and MV techs side by side in the same shop. Are ice cubes for sale in H&ll, yet?

Insurance: a form of risk management primarily used to hedge against the risk of a contingent loss.

Health insurance is risk vs loss Mr Obama! What you're selling is a lifestyle product to be taxed- A$$hat!

I'm 100% sure they are doing it for the writedown. There is no other reason to purchase a company that has been bought out 3 times since 1991 and just had a major refinancing in 2006. MV is a black hole, but I think Harley will reap big tax benefits from losing money there.

The price is pocket change for Harley. For a few mil, they get a 500 strong dealer network that is primarily based in Europe and get paired with a respected, high end marque. It also fills out their product mix. I understand that V-Rods and Buell's are their best sellers over there so it is a natural fit.

"For a few mil,..."

That would be 109 mil to be exact. 70 million was to pay off MV's debt. Think about that for one second and it has 'LOSER' written all over it.

You can't even get Harley dealers to embrace Buell. I can imagine the reception MV Agusta is going to get.

Selling MVs at places where people wear T-Shirts that say, "F*** Imports", is a really good idea!

Maybe HD can get those Italian union workers to knock off the 50 minute breaks every hour and the wine sodden lunches, but I doubt it.
