Nice test there Pete. The big gixxer still gets ooohs and ahhhs from bystanders and riders alike. Still weighs close to 500 lbs though...

It sounds like the GSXR is the power king and the R1 is the usability king between those two contenders.
Bottom line is I love the sound of the new R1 and I am a mere mortal as a rider, so the easier to handle nature of the crossplane crank appeals too. My dream is a crossplane crank Gen III FZ1 to replace my beloved Gen II someday. I can wait ![]() |

Yeah, it DOES seem like a good replacement for the ZX-14 they stole, don't it?

"Would you believe in this day and age, they be gettin' heavier?"
They need to be heavier to handle that kind of power. The older, lighter ones were getting fragile. You can't keep paring away metal and adding horsepower. Real bad combo.

I think theres alot of discrepancy when it comes to the weight of these Machines. For example most places you check the 08 its stating the dry weight at 379lbs then everywhere else I checked the weight of the 2009 its stating the wet weight at 448lb which Iam assuming is not far off on the 08 when you add Fuel, oil, and coolant.
These bikes are becoming so light they explode when you drop them. I'd rather give that up for the durability of an extruded aluminum frame, that way when you go down you can bend it back.

Well yeah, that's why Harleys are so heavy, got's to keep all them ponies feets on the ground...if they made 'em any lighter why they'd just up and run off by themselves...
