Default Yeah, but the 472 Caddy motor was king...

In 1969 Cadillac designed a replacement for the aging 429 C.I. motor, and designed the 472 along the same lines (external oil pump, ratio rocker arms, no exhaust manifold gasket, windage tray and closed heads). The Edo had a 472 since '67 btw.

The 1969 472 had 10.5 to 1 compression, a HP peak at 3500 RPM of 360 horse power, but at 4000 rpm the torque peaked at 500 ft. lbs.

That, and thinwall castings got the weight down to around 600 lbs. will full accessories. 100 lbs lighter than a BB Chevy.

In 1970 they dropped the compression to 10.1, and the torque shot up another 50 ft.lbs. at 4000 rpm.

I had a 1970 that could smoke both tires down to the cords. I could kill any smogged up muscle car of the period, and it handled like a sports car. You steered it with the throttle.

Wish I still had it...

I had some fun times in that Plymouth Barb, on wet roads I used to be able to lift my foot off the accelerator then stomp on it and those narrow bias tires would just light up and start the car fishtailing down the road.......My poor german shepard Nikki in the back seat would look at me with baleful eyes and think to himself "you ass"..... We'd buy a couple of quarts of Rainier Ale and whatever else we could scrounge up and go out running around all night........free, white and 21......

You guys can talk about the 70s. I'd rather not. Even though the statute of limitations expired a long time ago. My 70's are best left alone.
