I was getting off the superslab, coming down from a bridge, merging with traffic to my right, during rush hour, late in the season,.....it was dark.
I saw a spot in the lane that I needed to get in so I juiced the gas and slid in between 2 full size pickup trucks. I continued with them for a short distance until we came to a traffic light. The guy behind me was beeping his horn and pointing at the road next to me. I looked down and saw that the truck in front of me was TOWING the truck behind me. I was very lucky that day ! JJ |

If the traffic signal hadn't come up quickly and if there wasn't already a car in the right lane...............ouch !

Did you ask them to put in some slack for you to finish your lane change?

Speaking of tow ropes: I used to ride with a guy (Glen) who had an ironhead in a hardtail frame. It was beat to crap, and one day it broke down out West in the Glades. So he calls his cousin Billy to come with his car and a rope to tow him home. I'd never seen that done, so I decided to hang around and watch. Billy shows up in his '72 Monte Carlo with about 20' of yellow plastic rope. They tied the rope around the rear bumper, and Glen wrapped two turns of rope around the headstock of his bike. He told me he'd hold the rope rather than tie it, and let go if anything went wrong. It worked great right up to Glen's neighborhood. As they went around the last corner, Glen veered into the curb. I guess holding the rope and trying to keep the bike up was too much, because the bike went down and Glen did a slow roll into the grass. I stopped to help Glen, but unfortunately, unbeknownst to Glen or Billy, the plastic rope had an overlying wrap that basically made a hitch around the headstock. Billy was busy leaning down behind the dashboard to finish his "goodies" before he got to Glen's house, and didn't notice the bike had gone over. So he dragged Glen's bike 2 blocks down the street to Glen's driveway, with Glen running behind, screaming at the top of his lungs "Billy, stop you dumb f'ker, STOP STOP STOP!!!" I was laughing so hard I couldn't even get my bike started to chase Billy down.
Good times, good times.

Funny story.
This was a tow STRAP and it was NOT a bright color. I could not see it. Took my breath away when I realized what had just happened. "Did you ask them to put in some slack for you to finish your lane change?" No,I just pulled over a little & let the truck go past me. JJ |

About 2 full size pickup truck distance.
I had no idea that they were towing. I was coming off a bridge. It could have been ugly 'cause it was rush hour. JJ |
