Default My Alaska Adventure

My name is Paul and this is my June 2008 Alaska Adventure.

In between some of the pictures I have provided links that will take you to the websites that I used to help plan my trip. I thought by including them you can see the history surrounding the Alaska Highway and why it was so important for me to ride there to see it for myself. I hope you enjoy my adventure as much as I did!
7,229 miles

Hi! I'm Paul. Glad you decided to come along on my Alaska Adventure. I am heading to Dawson Creek, BC where I will officially start my Alaska Adventure.

USA/Canada Port of Entry, Sumas, WA.

I bet your wondering what I am riding. You'll have to keep going to find out...

When it says gravel slow down.

Construction Zone. Get used to it.

This is the start of The Alaska Highway and I am riding my 2007 BMW 1200RT.

1523 miles to Fairbanks. Other towns along the way are St John, BC, Ft Nelson, BC, and Whitehorse, YT, Delta Junction, AK.

My usual motel for the night. That night it rained so hard I rode into town and bought a tarp to go over the tent. Notice the cyclone fence. It is to keep the Bears out. It works unless someone leaves the gate open.

More gravel. Get used to that too.

A bear cub and mother. I don’t have to worry, I can outrun the woman taking the pictures.

Fort Nelson Hotel, Fort Nelson, BC.

Slow Down! The grating on the deck makes it hard to control the bike.

Behind the Liard Hot Springs Lodge, BC is not a bad place to camp. Just don't have any food with you. It might attract an unwanted visitor.

This path leads to the Liard Hot Springs.

The Liard Hot Springs feel great!

The Yukon Territory

Sign Post Forest, Watson Lake, YT

The Northern Lights Centre, YT has a 360 degree panoramic video of the Northern Lights. Sit back in a reclining chair and enjoy the Northern lights.

Expect challenging roads and extreme weather conditions through the Yukon Territory.

It is amazing to see the weather change from one extreme to another in such a short period of time! Good thing I brought along my Gerbing's Heated Jacket Liner (6.4 amps/77 watts) and Heated Pant Liner (3.6 amps/44 watts) to keep me warm. I control how much heat I want with my Dual Temp-Controller.

The bridge was frozen over. The shiny road surface is black ice.

The Yukon River Crossing on the Dalton Highway.

Don't forget to get gas at the Yukon River Crossing.

The Yukon River Crossing Mall has it all… Gas, Store, Café, showers, and Motel.

Finally arrived at The Arctic Circle on the world famous The Dalton Highway.

Look closely…. Can you see it?

It’s amazing what you can see if you pay attention.
