Yeah, I see your point. But there is a whole can of worms there. Just to be a devil's advocate for the sake of arguing:

1. Why did they run for 'a simple traffic violation'? Wanted felons can often be apprehended during a stop for a traffic ticket (think Warren Jeffs). Once someone makes a decision to run, that opens up a whole new level of problems for the cops.

2. The article in question doesn't make it clear, saying they didn't have registration tags. I'm guessing this means they're not licensed for on-road use. Thus, no license plates. So how do you ID them? Even WITH license plates, getting close enough to a sportsbike to get the plate can be a challenge. The friend I mentioned above had numerous escapes from the cops under his belt. He only got caught because he had been working on the bike earlier and didn't get the oil line right. It went on him when he ran that last time and he gave it up.

And I'll be honest. I can muster no sympathy for these specific individuals. They knowingly took the risk (riding bikes that would get them pulled over) and when they lost that one, they took the bigger one (run). And I don't take the "it could happen to me" view at all, simply because, when I see red and blue lights, I pull over.

Reads like an argument for the spike strip.

Default Ahhh! the old arguement.

It's an old one but a good one. What I personally would like to do with these lowlifes is not the same (nor should it be) as what the state should be allowed to do with them. Kind of like the death penalty, personal revenge and retribution doesn't equal civilized justice.

Your answer is that there are no conservatives and haven't been for a long time. Just two different bands of thieves.

Once, when exceeding the speed limit on a fairly straight stretch of road, me and some friends passed a CHP going the other way. His brake lights came on just as we rounded a curve, so we all followed the fool in the lead, and went waaaaay faster than we should, on roads that were wet in spots, to avoid getting a ticket. We found a place to get off the road and out of sight, but heartily agreed that that was about the dumbest thing we had ever done. Giving up our bikes would have been a mercy, considering the other things that could have happened. We made up a rule, on the spot, that if the tail-end Charlie in the group ever got pulled over, we would comply with all laws and swear we didn't know who the other riders were that were out ahead of us. Sometimes you just have to take one for the team.
