Now that you can't use the "Getting them for the kids", imagine how many husbands now need to find a new excuse to wiggle out of the Dinette set and convince the wife that the ATV is a needed purchase.

On private property, as far as I'm concerned the law should have no say with regard to recreational safety and this is just needless intrusion into people's lives and families.

Its a different matter on govt-funded roads IMHO - the government there can legitimately have some claim to regulating behaviour.

But what ticks me off about this law even more is that its heavily biased against the moto-crowd. Equestrian riding is far, far more dangerous, especially for children - the death and injury rates for equestrian sports are about twice what they are for motorcycle *racing*, and the bulk of those equestrian injuries are girls under sixteen. I don't hear people screaming to keep girls under sixteen off horses.

No flame from me. I was fortunate, my parents watched me like a hawk. I figure they felt that was their job. As I have grown older and seen my peers raise their children I have often shook my head dumbfounded. There is no license required to have kids. Apples don't fall far from trees. And most of the time you reap what you sow.

Unless the AMA does something about it I'm thinking we can kiss the ATV good bye soon. I'm simply getting my 4 year old a Yamaha 50 and putting training wheels on it.

Sounds like a good idea until you realize the following:

If there's one way to ensure almost 100% that a child will become a criminal and/or a statistic just have him or her raised by the State.

When I was in the 7th grade I used to take my .22 pump rifle to school so I could go to the range after school and shoot. You won't believe it but I went to school in Inglewood, Kalif and my brother and I would go to the range at Centinnela Park in Inglewood.

My how times have changed. You can't have a gun. And you can't walk the street either. So much for the good intentions of the fascisti.

A system of three or four Levels or "Tiers" should do it. No Parent should be allowed to operate a Child of each displacement-level without the proper training and fee payments.

Infant (Beginner), Toddler (Novice), PreTeen (Amateur), Teenager (Pro, or "Unlimited") are my suggested categories.

Operating say, a Teenager with only an Infant or Toddler License should be grounds for Immediate Forfeiture of all reproductive organs, and confiscation of all Children - past and present.

No Deposit, No Return.

The only thing I hear about around HERE for girls under sixteen is the efforts being expended to keep them out from under Pedophiles.............
