This was a stupid move. The biggest problem is that they are a 2 stroke bike country and in no way did they try to convert the riders to 4 stroke bikes- that run much cleaner. Gov't good- People stupid- that's the what the gov't wants you to believe.

The Chinese Government is not a republic or democracy. So let's not draw to many conclusions for Western Countries from this news shall we.

I am sure that if any U.S. or European city had 320,000 motorcycles this would not have a chance in hell to happen. In China there is no opposition party, no AMA, etc.

I can't understand why not. Granted it is a different form of government, but it is a government. Because the power structure is ostensibly different doesn't invalidate comparisons made at a policy-level entirely. You just have to exercise some judgement when you're doing it.

In other words, it's easier for the Chinese to get stuff done.

Agreed. However, if the gov't would have taken the time to try to educate the public of the air quality issues and given some type of buy back program (we are taking socialism/communism here) to encourage the purchase of newer or at least 4 stroke machines the problem would have eased in the very least.

Agreed. I guess I should of said just because a totalitarian regime like China can make a change like this doesn't mean the best form of government ever invented (U.S. style of republic) will do the same..
