First prize to the person who can guess correctly which nation under which political party was the first to pass anti-smoking laws.

Probably not true. Apparently, the most injurous part of the crash is usually the vertical fall from the bike. You can get hurt sliding into something, but it's not as likely a simply landing on your head. Speed actually has a lot less to do with it than people think. Although,if you ride directly into a wall at speed, the helmet ain't going to help you anyway.

For that matter people are frequently severely injured by fallling off of horses! We need a mandatory helmet law for all horse owners too!

Default Here's the solution:

As I may have suggested before, let's just get the government to fund covering every known surface with Nerf. No one will ever get hurt and we'll all live forever...

...until they find out there's something "unsafe" about Nerf. Then everyone will have a big, fat lawsuit.

I live in Sandy but work near the U and, as a California transplant, I can safely say that those orange pedestrian flags only enrage and infuriate me... much like a matador's cape.

What's very interesting about SLC specifically is that, despite Utah being a very republican state, the mayor is so left-wing that he misses making city council budget meetings to attend environmental summits in Iceland or something. He signed SLC onto the Kyoto accords, drives a hybrid, hates smoking, but thinks the booze needs to flow more freely (hear! hear!).

It's always fascinating to me how he thrives in the conservative environment around him.
