He's probably heavily dosed up today. I think he seized up from anxiety over the weekend. He'll pop up with a post or two tomorrow and than be in full form by Thursday.

MORE THAN 1/2 OF THE SINGLE VEHICLE FATALITIES HAD A BAC OF 0.15 OR GREATER. GEEEZZZZZZ..................!!!!! DUH!!!

Hey, stop the fringin drinking and riding. That's an easy way to drop the fatalities a bunch.

Also none of the graphs, etc were normalize for numbers in the population. Ex; 1994 versus 1995 (chose a year), should be the percentage of riders envolved in accidents/fatalities, etc. Numbers that increase have little relevance if the total number of riders is not somehow factored into the analysis.

Default longride has been ahead of the curve on this issue.

Kudos to longride who has been saying the same thing for years. Arguably equally important is wearing good safety gear i.e. full-face helmet, proper jacket, pants, gloves and boots. But yep in a perfect world if you were a perfect rider you might be able to ride nude. But oil patches, tree branches , Left turning cars in front of you etc. i.e. shyt happens. Seruzawa didn't you notice speed was a factor?...

Interesting to see this report, because while I was up in the state of Washington recently, I noticed that before almost every curve in the country roads I was traveling were signs warning "MOTORCYCLISTS WATCH YOUR SPEED". Looked to me as if they had been hastily erected. Now I know why.. because of this report.

Signs are helpful, but there's no substitute for taking the motorcycle safety foundation course. Anyone who rides a two-wheeler owes it to themselves to take the course. IMO taking the course should be a pre-req to getting a license to ride a two-wheeler.

Here are some stats from Washington.

http://www.wsdot.wa.gov/NR/rdonlyres...ety_012105.pdf

(Sorry about the long URL)

Lane errors are (loosely) defined.

It is is almost as fatal being a pedestrian as riding a motorcycle (just shows how statistics can be poorly interpreted).

Death ratios by type seem to mirror the motorcycle stats.

I suppose the bright side to this report is that if you're a responsible rider, the chances of getting into a fatal crash are quite slim. Although there's always the possibility of being taken out by an animal or another vehicle, statistically speaking, responsible riders probably are safe. I'm glad that the report didn't say that motorcycles are dangerous. How many times have we heard that before?

Of course it's "A" Factor - it's a goddam Government Report!

But, it's not "THE" Factor.

Don't waste your breath. After he loses every argument he then misrepresents what the original argument was.

This report is missing a critical perspective. Here in Florida, the anti-bike crowd is constantly pointing out a 30+% increase in motorbike fatalities since the helmet law repeal. What they don't point out is that registrations are up 45% or more for the same time. Thus, the "true" number of fatalities is actually going down. More riders, less deaths per rider. It's getting safer to ride, statistically, which I think is a function of increased awareness amongst the general public.

Fog does it for me too, I hate riding in that stuff. Rain isn't really a problem because you can gear up for it but fog will get you dead. I've ridden home a bunch of times from working nights where the fog covers your faceshield then freezes. Not anymore thanks, I'm too old for that crap
