Banning cell phones won't make a difference, especially as people move to blue tooth phones. Hell, most police officers are so focussed on speeders, that truly dangerous driving appears to be ignored. I swear I could go up the highway a foot off the rear bumper of the car in front of me, and as long as I am not speeding, no officer would hassle me. Same thing holds true if I were doing the speed limit in the passing lane, and forcing the cars behind me to back up and pass on the right. I guess speeding is relatively easy to monitor and catch, compared to dangerous driving, so that is what they go after.

I used to ride my bike every day, as long as it was not snowing. I grew tired of the commute however. Cars that would try and cut me off because I was making better time than them, inattentive drivers, etc... It reached the point I was p.o.'d by the time I hit work, because of all the b.s. I had to put up with on the bike. Perhaps I will start again some time, but not now.

Default More mental leaps

"Someone who practices emergency stops regularly from various speeds is at an advantage over someone who doesn't... no matter what bike they are riding." Like kpaul

Actually the weight of the cruiser works against it i.e. it takes more force to stop it (F=ma). SUV vs. compact car... You guys crack me up. Talk about old wives tales go to how stuff works dot com take 2 lessons and call me in the morning

The most important factor pertaining to stopping distance is speed.

Higher speed has a double whammy as it consumes more distance in the time the rider reacts to the situation, and then consumes more distance to reduce speed to zero.

Additionally, the slower rider has the advantage that he would have more time to observe road conditions and allow other road user more time to observe him. Anybody that thinks they are safe riding fast because they have good brakes is delusional.

I always have the little knot in my stomach when I ride. It keeps me alert and in check. I like having it there and IÂ’ll stop riding if it ever goes away. ThatÂ’s the day IÂ’ll wreck.

I couldn't agree more! I would add: Get REAL protective gear and buy a bike that seats you in the best position for control.

Most of all, LEARN TO RIDE! MC skills must be practiced!

If this is too much to ask, I'm betting you're only into bikes for the show. If this is the case, save yourself some suffering. Find a new hobby.

You're wrong. Sir Isaac Kook is right. Just deal with it.

Let it rest or he'll soon be explaining that the earth is actually flat.
