Looks like some motorcycle haters snuck one in under the guise of getting ATV's off of public roads.
Keep stuntin' and running those loud exhausts, children.

A map of Florida strongly suggests that this North Port is a wide place in the road just west of I 75 maybe halfway between Fort Myers and Sarasota and a few miles inland from the Gulf of Mexico.
Anybody from that neck of the woods able to provide any background to this ignorance? |

Perhaps the city's leaders were tired of motrcycles with modified exhausts cruising the streets. It is probable easier to enforce a "no motorcycles" policy, rather than stop and test bikes with a decibel meter.

I agree with banning noisy motorcycles if they wish and enforcing it. But how can they ban a street legal vehicle from public roads?
This is why we should all be AMA members... |

I submit North Port as the next national Hog Rally city.
300,000 strong. call out the Guard. Shoot to kill. We can bring in every diverse bike group under the sun. Wait till Dikes on Bikes arrives arm in arm with HA. Bikers for Jesus with the Devils Diciples. This could put North port on the map. |

North Port is, logically, just north of Fort Myers and Port Charlotte on the West Coast of Florida. It's very small.
It's not clear to me that they have the legal authority to ban motorcycles - I suspect it would depend upon the amount of funds used to build their roads received from the state, county and federal governments. Anyone here a lawyer who can answer definitively? I'm from that general area originally, and there aren't a lot of bikes because the riding pretty much blows - lots of straights, it's hot, it rains a lot, the traffic can be difficult, the drivers aren't aware of other cars let alone bikes etc. Nevertheless, this law is passing strange and must have been passed in response to something specific. Additionally, banning a vehicle post-purchase when it's a single mode of transportation might similarly not stand legal scrutiny without compensation. cdg |

Can someone please explain to me how a legal and licensed street motocycle with state plates and tags can be prohibited from operating on any public road?
Do we get a refund, then, on our portion of taxes spent on supporting public highways and infrastructure? Me thinks not. |
