I think they have their own power source, though I'm not sure. Most regular car alarms do, of course, use the battery. I'm told that experienced car thieves know where the battery is located under the hood, and will sometimes just drill through the body and whatever else is in the way, punch a hole in the battery, and drain all the acid out. Then, just pretend to be towing a disabled vehicle, hook to your truck, and drive off. There are probably a dozen more ways that I know nothing about. I have my doubts about how effective car alarms are anymore, anyway. I live in a quiet neighborhood, and we hear three or four a week. No one even looks out their window anymore.

One of my employees hankered after an 84 magna for a long time. He eventually bought one for 2500 bucks. I couldn't understand it; he just fell in love with its looks. To me it looks like a honda shadow that's been run over by a semi.

Lo Jack has its own powesource disconnecting the battery will not help. It will go for a long long time before it dies.
