The Utah HP uses a lot of Gold Wings, but with the distances in Utah you'd expect that. They also have some HDs and BMWs. Most of the local police forces use Harleys. The last time I saw the LEOs go down the Interstate on their yearly rally about 90% of them were on HDs.

As far as Police bikes go, top speed is seldom relevant. The bikes are used for other purposes than high speed pursuit.

No one can outrun a radio anyhow.

"No one can outrun a radio anyhow."

I have heard that more times than I can remember.

Think about this though, while a radio can provide instantaneous communications, it does not place a law enforcement officer in postion to take advange quite as quickly.

Not that I would know that twice or anything.

My friend and riding buddy who is highway patrol uses the Harley and he doesn't have too many positive things to say other than it is a comfortable ride.

Man, if I had known that Cop's Harleys topped out at only 105 or so, I might have been able to avoid a ticket or two.

That's kind of funny because that means the Vics are actually faster than the motorcycles.

Only 25%? I'd have expected it to be higher. And so far as the indifference of the TJ Chief to "owning" a stolen vehicle in Mexico goes, I'm not surprised.

Out in the department parking lot, Officer Grant Clark, who is evaluating the ST1300P, said "riding it is fun. It's very quick. It's nimble. I wouldn't mind having it for personal use, but I don't know about enforcement use."

Officer Clark continues; "I mean, the ST is a great bike, but just look at me astraddle that thing! It's the proverbial Munky Feckin' a Futbol when I ride it! I'd rather have the Fat Boy, at least my gut doesn't look so out of place when I ride the Harley."

This probably won't sit well with mounted police-MORONS, but as a retired law-enforcement officer, I personally love the look, sound, and presence that an HD lends to any department. Any other make seems kind of cartoonish to me. But, realistically, I see no real pragmatic value to maintaining mounted police in the 21st Century. Frankly, I would categorize it along with their horse mounted brethren as tactically challenged and obscenely non cost-effective divisions. Department brass not intimidated or swayed by nostalgia and tradition would almost universally retire both where they exist, if such units did not command such fanatical loyalty, which is well out of proportion to their size or value. These superior officers, always grossly under-funded and functioning in an escalating world of criminality and terrorism, would use the conserved funds for more pressing requirements like modern logistics, multi-purpose armoured vehicles, weapons, training, and communications. Let's face it, these institutions are that and that alone, anachronisms from a prior historical page. Pretty to look at, but without redeeming value. Nevertheless, and admittedly without any rational justification, I completely support their retention or establishment in any department that wishes them. Why, because motorcycles moving about anywhere in my field of view improves my day .

If you ever knew anyone that got caught for felony evading, you might think twice before running. Believe me, risking your life, license, savings, and possible jail time isn't worth any ticket you would get. It's a bad bet any way you look at it.
