Amen!

I would have loved to see a movie where Clint Eastwood got to shoot Sherrif John Wayne.

Off topic, but John Wayne was a USC alum. So of course he was a jerk. Just thought I'd add that in.

I agree with you pplasm. If the doctor is driving a Benz or Bimmer he gets no ticket and a police escort to the hospital. Seems to me the cop should of looked at the guys license first off, hopefully the license would indicate he is a M.D. After that give the cop should give the doctor an escort to the hospital. I can see the cops side somewhat in that he probably hears every excuse in the book. But if the guy had a license that indicated he was a MD the cop should escorted him to the hospital ...

I know the cops pretty well from working as a firefighter for 17 years. Most are not bad guys, but there are some that make youwonder how they don't get shot.

Thats not how its been explained to me by afew police that I've known (and a driver improvement teacher thanks to a speeding ticket I did not beat years ago). But it also probably varies state to state.

Not that a law saying they must obey the speed limit would ever be violated by a police officer, or EMS/Ambulance.

In the jurisdictions that I am aware of emergency vehicles (at least ambulances) are explicitly forbidden from speeding without an escort. This as a result of too many incidents involving an innocent bystander getting run over by a speeding ambulance (it happens). I kinda agree with this too. Still I think that in most cases this is a c.y.a. policy for the local governing authorities and that some speeding is routinely (and wisely) tolerated.

Still in this case it sounds like possibly an unhappy case of two knot heads being in the same place at the same time.

Now, now, lets not just blaim USC graduates for being jerks. I've known plenty of college graduates with a BS or BA in being a jerk.

Harvard, any Florida school, heck I even work with a guy who graduated from Hawaii who had a masters in Jerkology.

Or is that "why they have not been shot" (by their own partners)

In Illinois, speeding, crossing the double yellow and going through red lights is a touchy situation. You CAN speed legally, as no cop will ticket a fire truck racing to the scene. You can also go through a red light with lights and siren on, but legally you are only "asking for the right of way' for such antics. If you are barreling through an intersection, at say, 20 over the limit, and you get in a banger, you can and WILL be sued for negligence, and your career will be on the line. I was involved in an accident while on the wrong side of the road while going to a fire, but our speed was in check, and the guy that hit us head on got the ticket for failure to yield to an emergency vehicle. So, ot answer your question, you CAN speed and break normal traffic laws in an emergency vehicle, but if an accident occurs, you may still be held accountable for your actions.
